I get a little teary over this picture of Oakie and her first born foal, Diesel. Oakie is my friend Marjie's mare. I was there the day Diesel was born. One of the biggest privileges for me along with being there for the birth of my two granddaughters. Oakie is a favorite of mine and when Marjie called me I leapt into the car and drove pedal to the metal straight to her farm. Oakie had cleaned up her baby as best she could but still had more to go, It took awhile for the afterbirth to be expelled and she was tired but not too tired to nuzzle and nurse her baby. And that baby! What a sweet sweet little one. I got to watch him take his first unsteady steps. It was a beautiful thing. The whole thing was a beautiful thing. My picture of them was taken in a paddock but later I decided to put in a different background with a sky. There is nothing like being there when new life comes into the world. This picture is in my black and white gallery on my website but always in my heart.
